Research and Technology Engineer

At Tods Aerospace, we aim to maintain our position as a strong innovator in aerospace composite manufacturing and be at the forefront of new technologies for the aerospace market. We are currently initiating a new research and business development strategy including new technologies, products, materials and advanced manufacturing processes. This involves engaging with the National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme (NATEP) and partnering technically in significant Innovate-UK Aerospace Technology Institute ATI) funded research and development programmes from 2018. In addition to formal R&D projects, Tods Aerospace will conduct private venture customer product development projects, horizon scanning for new technology development opportunities and extensive work in developing internal existing materials and processes to improve our current manufacturing efficiency and quality.

As such we are interested in hearing from candidates with relevant experience, who are interested in Research and Technology Engineer positions in this field.

- Develop new materials and or manufacturing processes to deliver innovative solutions for aerospace customer needs

 - Identify and drive new technologies for the development of capability in new markets

 - Support fault-finding and investigations for materials and manufacturing factory operations

 - Support delivery of development projects, attending project review meetings internal and external to present technical activity and outcomes to project stakeholders

 - Manufacture, analyse, inspect and test composite material panels, coupon samples and demonstrator assemblies

 - Showcase and disseminate research outcomes to support new business development including attendance and/or presenting at tradeshows, seminars and conferences nationally and internationally

 - Support the industrialisation of new technologies into the ‘New Product Introduction’ process

 - Apply composite processing knowledge and materials understanding to support the construction of commercial bids and technical responses

 - Take responsibility for health and safety aspects of research activities and materials handling including an understanding of REACH and the writing/issue of materials & process risk assessments

 - Progress personal Continuous Professional Development

Prospective candidates must have the following:

 - Degree level qualification in a materials science and/or engineering discipline

 - Proven relevant experience in composites research, composites manufacturing processes, and composites materials testing

 - Experienced in scientific experimentation and reporting

 - Sound understanding of materials health and safety requirements and REACH

 - Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

 - High level of accuracy and attention to detail, and a pragmatic approach to problem solving

 - Flexible attitude to workload and strong team-working skills

 - Willingness to travel nationally and internationally in support of business activities
