Pyrometry Engineer

We are a market leader in Aerospace composite manufacturing, working with exciting technologies and materials to design and build some of the world’s most advanced composite structures. We are seeking an experienced Pyrometry Engineer to join our Quality team at our sites in Crewkerne, Somerset.


The Pyrometry Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the site Autoclaves and Ovens are maintained and compliant with AMS2750E and specific Customer requirements; including ownership of all Pyrometry activities for all thermal equipment.



 - Take ownership of all Pyrometry processes; including TUS, SAT, Calibration, Maintenance, and general working practices relating to Autoclaves & Ovens to meet all the required manufacturing & quality standards

 - Compilation, development, implementation and control of internal Pyrometry procedures in line with NADCAP, AMS2750E, and Customer requirements.

 - Carry out annual internal audits against NADCAP requirements to ensure all NADCAP and Customer requirements and good practice standards are met.

 - Provide support during external audits (Customer, BV, and NADCAP (PRI).

 - Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action activities (as appropriate) in response to audit findings.

 - Plan and undertake, where appropriate, the calibration of autoclaves, ovens, temperature gauges, and pressure gauges utilized for the Cure processes during production of composite parts.

 - Liaise with the appropriate service providers for the above calibration requirements where not completed in-house.

 - Ownership and management of the Preventive Maintenance Schedule for Autoclaves & Ovens.

 - Liaise with the appropriate service providers to ensure planned maintenance is completed in accordance with the Preventive Maintenance Schedule, and that unplanned maintenance & repairs are completed in a timely manner.

 - Support and carry out autoclave operation activity as needed.

 - Maintain accurate and up to date records in line with legislative requirements.

 - Undertake training and professional development as required to ensure qualifications/ knowledge are up to date.

The successful candidate must have:

 - Significant experience working within a heat treatment environment.

 - Recognised Heat Treating/Pyrometry training.

 - Knowledge and experience of the practical application of Pyrometry requirements.

 - Knowledge and understanding of Regulatory & Customer requirements; with particular emphasis on Heat Treatment & Pyrometry.

 - Ability to read technical drawings & interpret Customer specifications.
