Project Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Financial Controller, partner with the management and sales development teams as the dedicated Project Accountant for the Tods Defence Business for all program activities, including existing and new clients. 

The purpose of the role includes to deliver accurate financial management and performance analysis / insight to help support and drive the delivery of the Company’s sales and business revenue agreed goals.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Forecasting & Commercial support:

  • Work with the Financial Controller and Management team, manage the finance budget setting process for programmes within areas of responsibility
  • Work with the Management Team to respond to and complete bid activity/ies, assisting with the collation of financial proposals related to tender stage and subsequent associated queries
  • Assume financial control of agreed and approved projects under this remit including forecasting, variance analysis and pricing of new and approved proposals / programs
  • Support the Sales Development team during the tender process with client meetings requiring financial analysis/support, including for example profitability analysis and control of risk
  • Support the Sales Development team with the on-going management of existing and potential new clients as required in a financial advisory capacity, including for example application of Government costing regulations
  • Ensuring controls are maintained and in place for export controls, and appropriate regulations for supply of goods in the Defence market

Project Accounting:

  • Complete Project Accounts analysis and comparisons to bid estimates, forecast and budget expectations
  • Calculating percentage of completion of projects and apply to sales and costs for monthly management accounts
  • Monitoring contracts for payment due dates ensuring contract invoice terms are applied and credit control is tightly controlled with appropriate liaison with internal and external contacts
  • Ensure timely and robust data is presented to allow analysis of the wider business environment

Working with others:

  • Work with the Finance Shared Service team (Crewkerne) to support the Finance team and deliver agreed business goals and objectives
  • Share best working practice to utilise opportunities for continual improvement across the finance and all business functions
  • Raising relevant items of risk and/or opportunity to management’s attention
  • Assistance with other Finance team duties as required

Administration:

  • Ensure projects are up to date and accurate in all aspects of required documentation/reporting requirements
  • Ensure all administration is completed in line with associated company policies and procedures
  • Manage employee expense claim records

Health and Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure working environment is kept to a high and comfortable standard in line with Health and Safety regulations
  • Comply with Company and personal Health and Safety obligations escalating any areas of concern to management / designated Health and Safety person/s

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • CCAB qualified, part qualified or qualified by experience
  • Ensure projects are up to date and accurate in all aspects of required documentation/reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of Government Contracts and applicable regulations
  • Management of Long-Term Contract Accounting records and controls
  • Strong finance background with experience of project accounting
  • Ability to communicate to all levels with internal and external customers
  • Able to implement change and process improvements
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Proficient in MS office applications (Word/Excel (Advanced)/PowerPoint)
  • Experience of working as part of a team and autonomously
  • Self-motivated
